Пособие состоит из 15 блоков, каждый из которых содержит грамматический материал и два текста, предназначенные для чтения, перевода и обсуждения, а также упражнения для закрепления пройденного ранее.
Аудиозапись включает в себя тексты и диалоги, что помогает правильно усвоить английские интонации и произношение. Кроме того, записаны варианты перевода на английский язык соответствующих упражнений из второй части каждого блока.

THE MONARCHY.
The Monarchy is the oldest institution of government, going back to at least the 9th century — four centuries before the Parliament and three centuries before the law court. Queen Elizabeth II is herself directly descended from King Egbert, who united England under his rule in 829. The only interruption in the history of the monarchy was the republic, which lasted from 1649 to 1660.
Today the Queen is not only Britain’s head of State but also an important symbol of national unity.
Although the seat of the monarchy is in Britain, the Queen is also the head of a number of Commonwealth states. These include Australia, Barbados, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. In each such state the Queen is represented by a Governor-General, appointed by her on the advice of the ministers of the country concerned and completely independent of the British Government. Other member states are republics or have their own monarchs.
In the British dependent territories the Queen is usually represented by a governor who is responsible to the British Government for the administration of the country concerned.
